Future Plans

 

St Gabriel Home is committed to meeting the long term needs of the children it supports. Information about planned or special projects already underway will be posted periodically. In general, plans for the future are focused on:

 

  • As demand for education (pre-schooling and primary level) continues to increase, especially for growing numbers of children drawn from the local community, there is an urgent need to increase the capacity of the school over time from the present level of 70 children up to 250-300 children. This requires the construction of an additional 9 class rooms with supporting infrastructure.
  • As the number of children attending school grows, so does the generation of revenue from modest school fees which can be allocated to cover the operating and maintenance costs of both the home and school. The aim (over the next 3 to 5 years) is to grow the school to a point where the generated fees/revenues allow the home and school to be financially self-supporting over the long term. The overall goal for Saint Gabriel Home and school is sustainability whereby the local community become the de facto investors and supporters of the social care and educational services they provide.

Guaranteed payment of maintenance/operating costs over the long term would release individual donations for continued investments into building improvements and related facilities, teaching materials, medications, anti-malarial bed-nets etc., extending these benefits not only to resident children but also to disadvantaged children living in surrounding communities.
